A lot of people rave about the unique benefits of peppermint oil. Most people like this essential oil because it gives your scalp a wonderful tingling sensation. In addition to feeling amazing on your scalp, there are some great benefits to including peppermint oil in your hair regimen. Below, I discuss 5 benefits of peppermint oil for your hair.

Before I share the 5 benefits, I must say that I love peppermint oil because when I use the oil, it leaves me feeling like this:

#1 Soothes a Dry Scalp

Peppermint oil is anti-inflammatory, which means it will help soothe your scalp. This will in turn help with dry scalp, prevent lice, and eliminate dandruff. For optimal results, it is best to add peppermint oil to your favorite carrier oil and apply it at night, right before you go to bed.

#2 Helps to Grow Hair

Peppermint oil is an essential oil that can help with hair growth. Essential oils help with blood circulation to the scalp, which in turn creates thickness of the hair and follicles. When working on growing your hair, you should apply the peppermint oil to your favorite carrier oil or shampoo/conditioner for deep moisture. Then, let the oil do its work. Once deep in your scalp, peppermint oil can help make your hair roots stronger and provide some needed nutrients to your hair.

#3 Strengthens Hair/Roots

Peppermint oil is made from menthol and menthone, which helps to strengthen your hair roots and prevents damage. Many shampoos have peppermint in them, but if yours does not, then you should add a few drops of peppermint oil to it. In a shampoo, peppermint oil acts as a cleanser for your hair, which helps to naturally cleanse it. This will help your scalp to breathe and feel rejuvenated.

#4 Refreshes Hair

Peppermint oil gives your hair a refreshing look and creates more shine. Due to its makeup, peppermint oil can kill off many types of fungus. For peppermint oil to refresh your hair, it is important to do a pre-shampoo treatment with peppermint oil and another carrier oil and then rinse it before shampooing it. Peppermint oil may feel tingly with a minty feeling to your scalp, and it will act as a deep conditioner and will refresh your hair.

#5 It is All-Natural

Peppermint oil is light, with a great scent! It can moisturize your hair without it feeling greasy and weighed down. Studies have shown that peppermint oil can help to balance your scalp’s PH level. The good news is that peppermint does not contain harsh chemicals, which also makes it a good herbal treatment.

***Please Note*** Undiluted peppermint essential oils can cause a burning sensation on your skin. Always dilute oils with a carrier oil to help protect your skin.

These 5 benefits of peppermint oil suggest that by adding this small addition to your hair care routine you can possibly receive large benefits in your hair journey. I have a question for you at home I have peppermint essential (liquid) can I add it to any oils (argan jamaican olive oils) and use it onto my scalp

    • Hello Magdeleine,

Thank you for reaching out! Essential oils are safe to add to hair oils/products. We would suggest doing a spot check (add it and apply it to an area in your hair) to see how your hair responds to it.
